Elon baseball coach Mike Kennedy reaches win No. 850

Elon won its 850th baseball game in coach Mike Kennedy’s 28 seasons by completing a Coastal Athletic Association sweep of visiting Hofstra on Sunday at Latham Park.

Vince Fattore hit a three-run home run, and Alex Duffey knocked in three runs and had three hits as Elon won 11-6 in the series finale.

Kennedy is one of 20 active Division I coaches with 850 or more victories.

In Friday’s series opener, Kenny Mallory, Jr. had four hits and drove in six runs. Justin Mitrovich and Ben Sieracki combined on a three-hitter for Saturday’s 2-1 victory.

On Tuesday night in a non-conference game, UNCG notched all its runs in the final two innings for a 15-1 victory against host Elon. Five Elon pitchers combined to blank the Spartans (20-15) for the first seven innings, but UNCG posted 11 runs in the eighth, when the Phoenix was charged with three of its five errors, and four more in the ninth.

Elon (14-22, 4-8 CAA) is home Friday through Sunday for a CAA series vs. Monmouth and then welcomes nationally-ranked Wake Forest for Tuesday night’s home game.



At Towson, Maryland, Elon won two of three CAA games vs. Towson with McKenna McCard pitching a pair of shutouts.

Elon won 8-0 in the series opener in a run-rule shortened game (five innings) Friday and then prevailed in the third game by 6-0 on McCard’s one-hitter Sunday. Eastern Alamance alum Reagan Hartley had two hits Sunday. Towson won 5-1 in the middle game of the series.

Elon (16-25, 10-8) is home for a CAA series vs. Hampton from Friday through Sunday.


Women’s golf

Elon placed fifth in the CAA championships at The Reserve Club of St. James in Southport.

The Phoenix had its best score of the three-round tournament with Sunday’s final-round 304, putting Elon at 45-over-par 73. Delaware was the team champion at 45-over, followed by College of Charleston and UNCW in a second-place tie and Campbell in fourth.

Elon’s Apple Ngamwong shot 14-over 230 to tie for seventh individually.


Women’s lacrosse

Elon won back-to-back CAA games for the first time since 2021 by defeating visiting William & Mary 18-11 on Sunday at Rudd Field, with Mia Zebley and Sammy Fisher each scoring four goals.

The Phoenix (7-7, 3-3) faces Delaware at noon Saturday in its home finale.


Men’s tennis

Elon won its final home match under retiring coach Michael Leonard with Friday’s 6-1 victory against Radford.

Under Leonard, the Phoenix has won 298 matches in 20 years. Elon is in the CAA Tournament this week at Williamsburg, Virginia.
