After barely a year in the employ of Elon’s municipal government, the town’s finance director has announced his intention to step down from his post later this month.
Joseph Trollinger, who took over management of the town’s finances on September 12, 2024, has informed the city’s administrators that he’ll clock in for the last time on Tuesday, October 7.
Elon’s town manager Richard Roedner publicly broke the news about Trollinger’s impending departure during a town council meeting on Monday.
“As you’re aware Joseph Trollinger has tendered his resignation,” Roedner reminded the council, “and I ask you to appoint someone as interim finance director so the state has someone to contact – and we can be official.”
The council went on to appoint Roedner to this interim role, which he’ll retain until the town selects a new permanent finance director to succeed Trollinger.
A graduate of Williams High School in Burlington, Trollinger had originally accepted the finance director’s position in order to facilitate his return to the community where he grew up. He had previously held a similar post in the Eastern North Carolina community of Wallace – which, like Elon, he ultimately departed after roughly a year on the job.
