Additional road closures at rail crossings in and around Alamance County are scheduled to begin early Tuesday morning and remain in place for several days, The North Carolina Department of Transportation has announced.
The closures are scheduled to take effect starting at 7:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 22.
Roads will be closed at three rail crossings in Elon: Church Street, Oak Avenue, and Williamson Avenue, weather permitting.
The rail crossing along York Road in Burlington will also be closed starting Tuesday morning, according to the state Department of Transportation (DOT).
Seven roads are scheduled to be closed on the Guilford County side of Gibsonville: Colony Road; Cullen Road; Huffine Street; Joyner Street; Power Line Road; Springwood Avenue; and Wagoner Road, DOT officials said in a release.
The closures are part of rail replacement work along 34 miles of the rail corridor between Mebane and Greensboro that began late last month. The replacement work in Alamance, western Orange, and eastern Guilford counties is part of a larger project in which up to 69 miles of railways between Raleigh and Greensboro will eventually be replaced.
Road closures at rail crossings are subject to change based on construction progress, weather, and rail operations, DOT officials said in an earlier release.
Detour signs directing drivers to alternate routes will be posted. Drivers are encouraged to plan for delays and to visit https://www.drivenc.gov/ for the latest real-time travel information.
