Elon picks new volleyball coach with title connections

Elon hired its first new volleyball coach in more than two decades, bringing in a man with NCAA championship credentials.

Matt Troy is the new coach. His coaching background includes directing a team to the Division III national title.

Troy has had two stints as coach at Johns Hopkins, with his latest six-year stretch resulting in a 151-17 record.

Troy was the coach for the program’s 2019 title with a 35-0 record. This year, Johns Hopkins reached the Division III national semifinals and finished with a 33-3 record.

Elon had a vacancy left by Mary Tendler, who coached the Phoenix for 22 seasons.

Troy is also a past coach at Howard Community College and, in between two stints with Johns Hopkins, at Mary Washington. He’s a West Virginia alum.
