Elon women’s golf coach Chris Dockrill retires after more than a quarter-century

Chris Dockrill, the women’s golf coach at Elon since 1999, has retired, the school announced Monday a day after the team’s season ended.

Under Dockrill, Elon teams won more than 25 tournaments and notched 22 top-five finishes in conference tournaments. He’s a member of Elon’s Class of 1986, and was inducted into the university’s Sports Hall of Fame based on his time as a men’s golfer. For two years, he was an Elon men’s golf assistant coach under Bill Morningstar.

In the Coastal Athletic Tournament that finished Sunday at The Clubs at St. James in Southport, Elon placed fourth. Ashley Lafontaine was at 11-over 227 for three rounds to tie for ninth place. College of Charleston was the team champion, with UNC Wilmington and Campbell in the next two spots.
