Elon women’s player makes progress after car accident

Elon women’s basketball player Ava Leroux is out of the intensive care unit of a hospital following an automobile accident prior to Christmas.

She sustained injuries from the wreck in Pennsylvania, where she lives.

According to information from the team, the accident occurred three days prior to Christmas. The team was on break.

Last week, a photo of the smiling player from her hospital bed was posted on the team’s social media page. According to the Pittsburgh Union Progress, Leroux needed multiple surgeries following the accident and has since returned home.

Leroux, a 6-foot-4 freshman, is the daughter of former NHL player Francois Leroux. Her hometown is listed as Bridgeville, Pennsylvania.

She started in four of Elon’s first 12 games. She has averaged 5.1 points and 3.6 rebounds per game.

Phoenix defeats High Point
Maraja Pass scored 20 points as Elon won 77-64 at High Point to conclude its non-conference schedule Saturday. Pass also supplied eight assists.

The Phoenix (4-9) won its second game in a row going into Friday night’s Coastal Athletic Association opener against visiting Towson at Schar Center. There’s another CAA home game for Elon at 1:00 p.m. Sunday vs. College of Charleston.

Iycez Adams added 13 points and Regina Walton had 11 points for Elon. High Point fell to 5-8.

Pass, a freshman guard, was named CAA Rookie of the Week for the third time. She ranks first among freshmen in the league with 4.3 assists per game.
