Police in Burlington are trying to track down a group of perpetrators who pillaged an area gun shop last week after they crashed a passenger sedan through the front door.
This unusually brazen break-in reportedly took place in the small hours on Sunday, July 13 at Weapon Works – a firearms retailer at 1433 University Drive.
According to the city’s police department, the suspects in this case used a black, 2013 Kia Optima to plow through the front of the business, which is located within a small strip center not far from the Ashley Furniture Store. The force of the collision reportedly shattered the building’s glass door and compromised the steel barrier meant to prevent anyone from forcing their way into the gun shop.
The culprits had apparently made off with “multiple” firearms by the time officers arrived on the scene at 3:17 a.m. They nevertheless left behind a number of clues, including vehicle parts that enabled investigators to ascertain the make and model of the sedan they had used to gain entry.
FRIDAY, JULY 25 UPDATE: THREE ARRESTED
Three people have been arrested for the break-in at Weapons Works on University Drive.
On Friday, the Burlington police department listed those arrested as:
Bryson Matthew Clarkson, 18, white, male, 311 Lindsey Street, Apt. A, Chapel Hill;
Michael Angelo Holland, Jr., 18, black, male; 110 Andys Lane, Carrboro;
and Savyon Marquis Williams, 19, black, male, 1636 Mansfield Street, Winston Salem (first name variously spelled Sayvon or Savyon).
Each has been charged with two counts of felony conspiracy, possession of a stolen motor vehicle, injury to real property, hit and run leaving the scene with property damage, breaking and entering, and eight counts of larceny of a firearm. All being held without bond.
