Former Burlington city clerk Renee Ward has been tapped by Graham’s city council to fill in as interim city clerk in the neighboring city inasmuch as Graham’s clerk, Darcy Sperry, is leaving for a new position at the coast.
Sperry will become the village clerk on Bald Head Island, whose former clerk, Daralyn Spivey, a seven-year veteran of the post, moved on to become clerk for the Brunswick County board of commissioners.
Sperry has served as Graham city clerk for 6½ years, and prior to that, for four years as zoning enforcement officer.

Also leaving Graham is planning director Nathan Page who is to become the town administrator in Youngsville, north of Raleigh; he replaces Phil Cordeiro, who resigned in May.

Graham’s city council was introduced to Cameron West, who was recently hired away from Elizabethtown in Bladen County to become a planner in the city’s planning department.

Ward was Burlington’s city clerk between 2012 to 2019 and served as deputy city clerk for the preceding 7 years.
