An Efland resident faces a felony drug charge after sheriff’s deputies reportedly caught him smoking weed in the parking lot of a business near Pleasant Grove.
Tavion Jarelle Henderson was taken into custody in the small hours on Saturday after the deputies ran into him during a routine check on the business along NC 49.
According to the office of Alamance County’s sheriff, the 23-year-old black male of 4805 Governor Cherry Circle in Efland was sitting in a parked vehicle with another individual when the deputies swung by the business at about 12:05 a.m.

The deputies reportedly approached the pair after they detected the scent of marijuana wafting out of the vehicle, and Henderson allegedly admitted that he had “a joint,” which he allowed the deputies to confiscate.
“Mr. Henderson then produced a plastic bag containing a white rock-type substance that he willingly identified as cocaine,” the sheriff’s office goes on to note in its subsequent account of the suspect’s arrest.
Based on Henderson’s alleged admissions, he was charged with felony level cocaine possession and has been placed under a $3,000 bond.
