Congressman Mark Walker has nominated 15 N.C. high school students for appointment to one of the U.S. service academies for the Class of 2025 – U.S. Air Force Academy, U.S. Military Academy at West Point, U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, and U.S. Naval Academy.
Four from this area are: nominated to the Air Force Academy – Bryan Cao of Whitsett, Weaver Academy; Isabella Shoup of Western Alamance High School; and Shannon Hobbs of Elon, Western Alamance High School; nominated to the Merchant Marine Academy – Parrish Wick Jacobi of Burlington, Oak Ridge Military Academy.
The Sixth District’s Service Academy Nomination Board, appointed by Walker, conducted interviews with each of the applicants and made recommendations based on their qualifications.
Next, the students will seek to meet the admission requirements of their service academy, which will make the final decision on admission in the early months of 2021. Each student who attends a service academy will make a commitment to serve in the military for a minimum of five years upon graduation.
