A police call to Walmart for one incident ended up with two arrests when two women – mother and daughter – allegedly assaulted police officers on the scene.
Burlington police officers responded on Friday afternoon (May 30) at about 3:30 p.m. to Walmart, 530 South Graham-Hopedale Road, for a larceny.
While on scene, a separate, unrelated disturbance occurred. Officers immediately intervened to end the disturbance, and while doing so, were feloniously assaulted, according to the department. Two black women were arrested.
April McMillan Pouncy and her daughter Niesha Latresha Burden were both taken into custody on Thursday afternoon following a disturbance at the Walmart supercenter at 530 South Graham-Hopedale Road.
According to Burlington’s police department, Burden was initially placed under arrest for threatening another customer during the fracas. Court records recall that the 37-year-old black female, who hails from 612 Maryland Avenue in Burlington, had told this individual that she’d “punch you in your sh–” – a declaration that secured her a misdemeanor-level offense for communicating threats.
Court records go on to note that Burden incurred another misdemeanor violation for resisting arrest as well as a felony for malicious conduct by a prisoner after she allegedly spit at one of the police officers who had subdued her.
Pouncy, meanwhile, faces five misdemeanor offenses for her alleged actions during her daughter’s confrontation with the city’s police officers.
According to court records, the 59-year-old black female of 1930-F Morningside Drive in Burlington, had attempted to punch one of the arresting officers in the face. Then, when the officers turned their attention to her, she allegedly threw a punch at a second officer and bit the one she had previously attempted to slug.
According to court records, Pouncy faces two misdemeanors for resisting a public officer as well as three more for assault on a government official.
Pouncy and Burden have both been released under bonds of $2,500 apiece.
