Lanterns at Burlington city hall: a tribute to local COVID casualties

The front steps to Burlington’s city hall were aglow with the light of nearly 200 lanterns Tuesday evening in memory of the 194 Alamance County residents who’ve lost their lives to COVID-19.

This city-sponsored memorial was accompanied by church bells which began tolling at several local houses of worship at precisely 5:30 p.m.

This tribute, during which lanterns are to remain lit until about 8:00 p.m., coincides with the city council’s semi-monthly meeting at 7:00 p.m. via Zoom teleconferencing platform.
