The weather was rainy and dreary, but spirits were merry and bright at Graham’s Christmas Parade Saturday morning (Dec. 3).
There were fewer bands and beauty queens than might normally be the case, but parade watchers found creative ways to stay out of the rain or, in other cases, simply embrace the wet elements to watch or catch a glimpse of a friend or family member in the parade line-up.

Dan & Mirian Vines of Burlington before the parade got started with Piper, who was initially distracted by her game. Later she would be an attentive and enthusiastic parade watcher. The Vines family found shelter under an awning on the southwest side of Court Square.
Not even attempting to find dry ground, Jerrie Teague and her children, Dylan and Hailey, simply lined up beside the Historic Court House. With them is Elizabeth Piat.
Popular viewing vantage point was under the awning of downtown businesses, here at Green & McClure.
The Spivey family of Gibsonville lined up in front of the Historic Court House where mom, Rita Spivey, works in the Clerk of Court’s office. With her are husband Jay, Candice, Reagan, and Ali.

This is the west side of South Main Street, with umbrellas in ambundance.
Large umbrellas provided protection during most of the parade while the rain was light; it got heavier as the morning went on.

Kim Coleman and her mother Sharon McGinnis had probably the biggest umbrella at the parade, although McGinnis was satisfied to use a smaller one..
