Western Alamance boosters and Blessed Sacrament School faculty and staff have been organizing campaigns for next week to lift up the family of Eamon Hipps, a Western Alamance student and athlete who died in a December automobile wreck.
T-shirts have been designed with the hope that those will be worn and photos shared on social media Wednesday, organizers said. That’s the day that Hipps would have turned 18 years old.
His death came December 27, slightly more than a month after the goalkeeper was named Most Valuable Player of Western’s Class 5-A state championship game in boys’ soccer. That was the team’s second consecutive state title.
His mother, Kristin Hipps, has been a teacher at Blessed Sacrament School. The school is holding a dress-down day Wednesday to allow wearing of the T-shirts. Organizers said this is an effort to provide continued support for the family.
“How magnificent would it be to see this T-shirt all over Alamance County,” organizers said.
Suggested hashtags on posts include #EamonHipps, #Hipps#1 and #ForeverOurMVP. A collection of the posts will be compiled into a memory book for the family and Western Alamance athletics.
There are multiple efforts as part of this campaign. T-shirt orders exceeded 250 through Graham Sporting Goods in Burlington as part of a fundraiser for Western Alamance’s Athletics Booster Club.
