HELP WANTED: more volleyball officials needed

By Bob Sutton

There’s a need for volleyball officials to oversee matches involving area schools in the upcoming season, the regional supervisor for the Central Carolina Officials Association said.

“I am probably going to be short on officials,” Jerry Talley said.

Talley said there already have been concerns about the limited number of available officials. That’s going to grow with middle school volleyball moving to the fall season. The middle school season will overlap with the high school volleyball season.

For middle schools, volleyball had been held in the spring and softball was contested in the fall. Those are flipping for the upcoming school year.

Talley, who’s based in Rockingham County and has been a long-time official in multiple sports in Alamance County, said training for officials is available. Pay for middle school matches is $80 and for junior varsity and varsity is $113. Talley can be reached at or (336) 344-2224.
