There are a few notable high school basketball matchups coming up.
On Friday night, there are rematches in girls’ and boys’ action when The Burlington School visits Burlington Christian Academy to end the regular season in the Central Carolina Athletic Conference.
As part of the evening’s activities, there’s a scheduled ring ceremony for the BCA state champion girls’ cross country team.
Meanwhile, the much-anticipated non-conference girls’ basketball matchup sending Southeast Alamance to Western Alamance was rescheduled to Saturday to allow for make-up conference games during the week. That game is set for 4:30 p.m., with the boys’ game between the schools going first at 3:00 p.m.
Boys’ roundup
Eastern Alamance avenged a loss from earlier in the month by defeating visiting Western Alamance 59-52 on Tuesday night to stay in contention in the Central 3-A Conference. After Wednesday night’s make-up game with Cedar Ridge, the Eagles are home Friday night against Williams.
- Western fell to league-leading Orange by 79-57 at home Friday night.
- Colby Elliot posted 24 points and Jaeden Smith ended up with 20 points when Williams won 91-46 at Southern Alamance on Friday night. All 10 Williams players scored.
Williams lost 79-57 at Orange on Tuesday despite Elliot’s 28 points.
Starting forward Timmy Harris of Williams might be out for the rest of the season with a broken hand suffered in a ski trip.
- Southern received 16 points from Micah Stone and 11 points from Riley Warren, but lost 52-43 on Tuesday to visiting Cedar Ridge.
- Southeast Alamance lost a crucial Mid-Carolina Conference game with Monday’s 72-51 loss at first-place Northwood.
- The woes continued for Cummings in Friday night’s 63-43 home loss to Seaforth.
- Clover Garden defeated host Ascend Leadership 65-36 in Friday’s Central Tar Heel 1-A Conference game with Brayden DeAlto notching 18 points, but it lost Tuesday night by 75-32 at Southern Wake Academy.
The Grizzlies go to River Mill on Friday.
- The Burlington School lost 73-60 in Friday night’s home showdown with Caldwell Academy despite Kaden Hammond’s 21 points and 11 rebounds, but the Spartans (15-10) followed that with Tuesday night’s 97-46 whipping of visiting Carolina Friends.
Girls’ roundup
Western Alamance recorded 18 steals as the Warriors overwhelmed host Eastern Alamance in Tuesday’s 69-34 victory in a clash between the top teams in the Central 3-A Conference.
Tina Bowers had 16 points and six steals and Allie Sykes notched 13 points, five assists and four steals. Emma Johnson’s 10 points, Cayden White’s eight points, 13 rebounds and four blocked shots, and Regan Averett’s seven rebounds also boosted Western, which connected on 10 shots from 3-point range.
Western was a 60-48 home winner against Orange on Friday.
- Williams rolled in Friday’s 60-12 victory at Southern Alamance with Malia Scott’s 19 points and Ry’leigh Surles’ 14 points the top marks.
Then the Bulldogs went to Orange and claimed Tuesday’s 61-53 victory as Jordyn Taylor scored 19 points and senior Amira Lunsford posted a career-high 16 points.
- Southeast Alamance’s winning streak reached five games with Monday’s 56-33 victory at Northwood as Shaniya Paylor had 20 points and Rreanna Johnson notched 14 points. The Stallions (14-2, 9-1) are in second place in the Mid-Carolina Conference.
- Cummings lost 63-28 on Friday at home to first-place Seaforth.
- Hanna Tickle had 20 points when Clover Garden won 40-19 at Ascend Leadership on Friday.
- TBS won 80-16 against visiting Carolina Friends on Tuesday with Alaiyah Mitchell scoring 25 points.
