Mebane’s planning board will soon get a chance to weigh in on a developer’s proposed change that would add 140 apartments to 14.74 acres along NC 119 that had been set aside for a Christian school.
Developer Buddy Lyons of LeoTerra, based in Kernersville, had consistently reduced the density of his development in order to win city council approval three years ago. But no construction has yet taken place.
The size of the residential development had been reduced from 514 units as originally proposed, down to 472 during planning board consideration, and, finally, to 436, as ultimately presented to and approved by the city council in June 2022. As approved, the LeoTerra subdivision, adjacent to the former school site, is scheduled to have 252 single-family homes and 184 townhouses on about 149 acres that stretches between NC 119 at Kimrey Road through to Farrell Road.

Now the 14.74-acre outparcel that he had left vacant along N.C. 119 near the intersection with Kimrey Road beside the former Hawfields Presbyterian Home – as a future home for Bradford Academy, a private Christian school – is, instead, being proposed for an apartment complex by a different builder, Brown Investment Properties of Greensboro.

The property has been owned by The Christian Education Society of Mebane since November 2021.
According to plans submitted to Mebane’s planning department, the development, to be known as Stadler Place, would consist of 14 two-story buildings with 10 apartments and 12 garages in each.
There would also be 195 additional parking spaces. The drawings submitted to the city show a pool, clubhouse (of 2,866 square feet), and dog park (with 9,500 square feet) as amenities around the apartment complex.
The planning board is expected to consider the rezoning for the project at its May 12 meeting.
