A driver with the “Lyft” ride-hailing service has been arrested after he allegedly took indecent liberties with a minor on the way to a destination in Alamance County.
Miguel Angel Rodriguez was taken into custody on Thursday after the county’s 9-1-1 center received an emergency call about his reportedly inappropriate behavior toward the 11-year-old passenger.
According to the office of Alamance County’s sheriff, Rodriguez’s alleged victim was one of three passengers he had picked up in Orange County on the evening of Thursday, June 2.
During the course of the ride, Rodriguez allegedly posed personal questions to his 11-year-old fare and touched the child’s leg in an inappropriate manner.
According to the sheriff’s office, operators in Orange County originally received the emergency call about the driver’s indiscretions while the vehicle was making its way into Alamance County. The call was then relayed to Alamance County’s 9-1-1 center, where operators communicated with one of the vehicle’s passengers by text message.
Rodriguez was ultimately arrested at the car’s destination, where deputies conducted further interviews with the three passengers. The 56-year-old white
male of 507 Giles Street, Mebane has since been charged with one-felony count of indecent liberties and one additional count of misdemeanor assault on a child less than 12 years in age.
Rodriguez has been placed under a $30,000 bond since his arrest.
