Mebane councilman, long-time firefighter, honored for 50 years service with Mebane Fire Department

Mebane city council members honored one of their own Monday night, recognizing mayor pro tem Tim Bradley, one of the longest-serving council members, for 50 years of service to the city’s fire department.

Bradley, who was first elected to the council in 1993, has served 31 years; only mayor Ed Hooks – who’s been on the council, as mayor or councilman, for 35 years – has served longer.

Bradley, who is now a volunteer assistant chief, has been both a volunteer over the past 50 years, including serving as the fire chief for the city (between1984-1990).

Bradley, who worked with the fire marshal’s office within the Department of Insurance (retiring in 2013), also received recognition from state Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey, who made a surprise appearance to present Bradley with the department’s “Order of the Guardian” award, which Causey described as the highest award of the Department of Insurance.

Since 2013, Bradley has served as the executive director of the N.C. State Firefighters’ Association, a membership organization with 57,000 members, all of NC‘s Firefighters.
