Mebane Sheetz to close for about 5 months

Drivers looking for a place to refuel or stock up on snacks around Mebane will need to take a detour for a few months.

Starting September 19, the Sheetz located off I-85/40 at 1237 Mebane Oaks Road in Mebane will be closed for about five months for remodeling, a store manager there confirmed Tuesday for The Alamance News.

“It’s a full-remodel,” the manager confirmed to the newspaper in a brief phone interview Tuesday afternoon.  The 6,471-square foot gas station and convenience store was built in 2005, according to Alamance County’s tax department.

Completion of the renovation is currently targeted for mid-February or early March 2023, according to the store manager.

Sheetz has three other locations in Alamance County, including two in Burlington and one in Graham, plus the company operates a distribution center in Burlington.

The timing for the remodel also corresponds to considerable NCDOT roadwork taking place in front of the store.  The Mebane Oaks Road overpass (immediately adjacent) is being widened, with some corresponding road-widening work along the roadway in front of the Sheetz.
