Lanes along I-85/40 will be closed to varying degrees beginning at 8:00 p.m. each night this week until Friday morning as part of N.C. DOT’s project to improve the Mebane Oaks Road interchange.
The contractor plans to install new girders for the overpass widening during these closures, and has announced phased closures of the interstate in this area – closing one lane at 8:00 p.m., two lanes at 10:00 p.m., three lanes at midnight, and all four lanes at 1:00 a.m.
This is scheduled to be in effect for the southbound and westbound lanes of I-85/40 Tuesday night and in the opposite direction (northbound and eastbound lanes) lanes on Wednesday and Thursday nights. All closures are set to be removed by 6:00 a.m. the following mornings.
During the times when the full closures are in place, drivers will be directed to follow a detour along Mebane Oaks Road, South Fifth Street and N.C. 119.
DOT reminds drivers to be prepared for these closures and associated detours and be mindful of the crews working near the interchange.
