Locally, Mebane has seen tremendous growth and construction continued throughout 2024. Among the projects completed or ongoing are:
- Construction was completed earlier this year on the 60,000-square foot sanctuary and classroom building for Summit Church at 1485 Mebane Oaks Road in Mebane. The congregation had met on Sunday mornings at Hawfields Middle School for nearly a decade.

- Another project completed during 2024 was McKay’s Books, just off I-85/40. Completed during 2024 was a 35,000 square foot bookstore and distribution center for McKay’s Books. The store is on a 6.654-acre tract of land along Wilson Lane, on the south side of the interstate highway, across from the Tanger Outlet and near the Morinaga plant. The company specializes in used books; it also sells used movies, comics, CDs, video games and gaming systems, collectibles, consumer electronics, textbooks, and audiobooks.

- Construction is well underway on the dual-branded hotel along I-85/40 behind Lowe’s Home Improvement in Mebane. Plans for the four-story hotel on seven acres that front the interstate call for 103 rooms, as well as 100,000-square feet that could include future offices and retail space. Two hotels will operate under a single roof: Hawthorn Suites by Wyndham, an extended-stay hotel; and LaQuinta, a midscale hotel brand that’s also part of the Wyndham Hotels & Resorts group.

- Mebane city and Orange County officials held a ceremonial groundbreaking this fall for the $136 million, 100,000-square foot expansion of Morinaga America Foods – the manufacturer of Hi-Chew candies, one of the most popular in Japan that has enjoyed surging popularity in the U.S. – beside the company’s existing facility plant in Mebane. The expansion will double Morinaga’s footprint in Mebane and provide an additional 204 jobs at its second facility along Wilson Road, which is inside Mebane’s city limits, just over the Alamance County line in western Orange County. Construction is targeted for completion by mid-2026.

- Mebane will have its first Tractor Supply, the county’s second (the other is in Burlington), after the city council voted in August to approve conditional rezoning for the 6.19-site off Mebane Oaks Road and Forest Oaks Lane, near Sheetz, Wendy’s, and the I-85/40 interchange.

- Residential construction in Mebane has also been strong in 2024. One of Alamance County’s and Mebane’s largest residential developments – with both townhouses and single family homes – is Cambridge Park (shown below).

- Construction on both sides of the county line has been brisk. Here (below) are some townhouses from Bowman Village in Mebane, just across the Orange County side of the county line with Alamance.
