New chicken restaurant heading to Mebane

A new chicken restaurant, featuring Peruvian Charcoal Chicken, has announced plans to open in Mebane.

Alpaca Peruvian Charcoal Chicken is adding its 14th location in Mebane at 1410 Mebane Oaks Road, adjacent to Signature Flooring. Among its current operations, the N.C.-based company lists six locations in and around Raleigh, three in Durham, and one  in Chapel Hill.

As construction was completed more than two years ago, the right side of the building remained unoccupied until this week’s announcement of a forthcoming Alpaca Peruvian Charcoal Chicken restaurant.

The veteran, minority, and family-owned Alpaca Peruvian Charcoal Chicken is known for its Peruvian-style rotisserie chicken. The business says it uses only all-natural chickens that are not given any added hormones and offers a variety of options that are free of many of the most common allergens.

The company will be leasing 3,543 square feet in the building built several years ago for Signature Flooring, whose owner originally thought Wings to Go, another chicken franchise, would locate with his company there, but those plans fell through.

“The Mebane location is a good fit for Alpaca Chicken because it is across the street from a Walmart, it’s a growing market, and there’s no competition there,” said Vijay Shah of Alpaca Chicken.

Other chicken restaurants already located along the same stretch of Mebane Oaks Road include Chick-fil-A and Zaxby’s.
