With new conference alignments, it meant those leagues had to have identification. Names for the conference were determined in the spring.
The seven Alamance County football-playing schools plus Roxboro Person are in the Mid-Carolina Conference that ranges from Class 4-A, 5-A, and 6-A.
That’s the same name that was used during the past four-year cycle for what became a nine-school league that consisted of Class 1-A and Class 2-A members.
Non-football schools Clover Garden and River Mill are in the Central Tar Heel 1-A Conference.
Also, Bartlett Yancey is in the Mid-State Conference, consisting of Class 3-A, 4-A, and 5-A schools. Eastern Guilford is in the Triad Area Athletic Conference Six, with six schools in either Class 5-A or 6-A.
Cedar Ridge and Orange are in the Big Seven Conference, which is composed of Class 4-A and 5-A schools.
For the Mid-Carolina Conference, Western Alamance golf coach Mike Pennington will be the conference commissioner. He held that position with the former Central 3-A Conference.
Pennington is also in that commissioner’s role with the Big Seven Conference. Cedar Ridge and Orange are former Central 3-A Conference members.
