Elon’s new town manager, Richard Roedner, is sworn in by town clerk Dianne Enoch on Monday night. Accompanying Roedner during the ceremony are wife Dory and mayor Jerry Tolley.
Having been the manager for the town of Topsham, Maine for the past five-and-a-half years, Roedner and his wife joked to the board this week about how they had left behind several inches of snow in the northern state.
Roedner was one of 25 applicants who vied for the position following the departure of former town manager Richard White last summer.
“Our process was thorough and we believe Mr. Roedner is the best choice,” mayor Tolley explained in November, shortly after Roedner was hired. “He has a proven track record of achieving the goals put before him and we are excited to have him join our team.”
Roedner holds a master’s in public policy and management from the University of Southern Maine and a bachelor’s in community development from the University of New Hampshire.
Speaking for himself and his wife, the new manager said, “We’re thrilled to be here.”
The board of aldermen also said its good-byes to interim town manager Bob Morgan, who has now served the town twice as a temporary manager.
