New townhouses coming on S. Mebane St. near Holly Hill Mall

To be located on three lots between Holly Hill Lane and Catherine Drive

Twenty townhouses are about to be built along South Mebane Street and Holly Hill Lane.
Dubbed the “Catherine Drive Townhomes,” after a nearby street, this development originally appeared on the drawing board in 2014 when the current property owner, A.B. Hezar, submitted a site plan to the city of Burlington.

Although the city’s inspections records indicate that nothing ever came of this site plan, Hezar has since applied for residential building permits to construct the proposed townhomes on three lots at 3704 South Mebane Street and the 2700 block of Holly Hill Lane. The city’s inspections departments issued all three of the permits earlier this week. The townhouses will be built between Holly Hill Lane and Catherine Drive.

The property did not require rezoning, so no action was taken by the city’s planning board or city council in order to proceed with the construction of the townhouses.

Reached at his real estate office, Hezar elaborated that the townhouse prices would probably be under $300,000 for two-story, two-bedroom townhouses with two-and-a-half baths; there will be no garages.

He estimates that about 20 townhouses will be built on the site which is currently being cleared. He said he hopes to start construction next month and make the units available for pre-sale shortly afterwards.

He described the townhouses as being very attractive, having brick veneer and “high-end finishes” such as quartz and granite countertops.

Hezar said he has two single-family subdivisions, with about 25 homes each, also underway in Burlington and Elon.

The Keller-Williams agent said he is “born and bred” locally and is proud of the housing developments that he is now building. Hezar says he grew up in Elon and attended Western High School and Elon University where he was on the Phoenix baseball team; he subsequently graduated from East Carolina University with a degree in Health Services Administration and a minor in Business Administration.

Hezar also hinted that another townhouse development, also along South Mebane Street, may be in the offing soon.
