An NFL kicker is sponsoring a free football camp that has been dubbed a “Karty Party” on April 12 at Western Alamance.
Western alum Joshua Karty recently completed his rookie season with the Los Angeles Rams.
The invitation to attend is extended to students interested in football in grades 1-12 from all schools in Alamance County.
“Just always knew I was going to do it if I made it to the (NFL),” Karty said of the clinic.
There will be two sessions. The first session runs from 1:00-3:00 p.m. for grades 1-5. For grades 6-12, the session goes from 3:00-5:00 p.m.
Aside from instruction, there will be a T-shirt, light lunch, and prizes for pre-registered participants.
As of late March, there were about 150 youngsters signed up. Karty said he expects the turnout to be more than 200.

Karty was a highly acclaimed high school kicker at Western before spending four college seasons at Stanford. He was selected in the sixth round of the NFL Draft last April by the Rams, who reached the playoffs during the past season.
This will add to the list of camps/clinics held in the area by NFL players in the past quarter-century. Brothers Torry Holt and Terrence Holt, who both came out of Eastern Guilford and then North Carolina State, sponsored camps for years in Gibsonville. Cummings alum Brandon Tate, who played in college for North Carolina before a pro career, held events for area youth at Cummings.
