This weekend saw the long-anticipated removal of a tarp that has, for months, concealed a bronze eagle at Burlington’s Willowbrook Park.
The newly-unveiled statue is the centerpiece of a Veterans Overlook that has gone up to commemorate the former site of an American Legion post, which was razed to make room for a new arboretum on the park’s grounds.
Funded, in large part, by the New Leaf Society, a nonprofit organization devoted to Alamance County’s beautification, the new arboretum’s development continues to stagger along despite delays caused by weather and the coronavirus pandemic.
