Octogenarian arrested for shooting his son

An 82-year-old man from Burlington has been arrested after he allegedly shot his son in a domestic dispute that occurred over the holidays.

According to court records, Johnny Lee Torain had threatened to kill his 56-year-old son during this confrontation on the evening of December 22. He allegedly went on fire to a 9-mm handgun at his son, striking him in the torso.

An 82-year-old black male of 2527 McKinney Street, Torain has since been arrested for assault with a deadly weapon with the intent to kill and the infliction of serious injury. He has also been charged with the misdemeanor crime of domestic violence as well as another misdemeanor for discharging a firearm within Burlington’s municipal limits.

According to the city’s police department, Torain’s son was in stable condition as of December 23. His father, meanwhile, has been placed under a $750,000 bond.
