A plastics manufacturer has announced its plans to close its facility in Mebane and lay off 59 employees early next year.
Precision Concepts International at 1403A South Third Street in Mebane filed a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN notice) with the state commerce department on Tuesday, in advance of a permanent closure scheduled to take effect on February 1, 2026.
WARN notices are required to be filed with the N.C. Department of Commerce for any company with at least 50 employees that plans to close during any 30-day period and/or plans to conduct mass layoffs.
Precision Concepts International is headquartered in Huntersville, about 14 miles outside of Charlotte, and manufactures rigid packaging products for the food and beverage, personal care, and dietary supplement industries, among others.
Precision Concepts recently acquired two similar companies.
Last month, Precision Concepts International announced that it had acquired New Jersey-based Comar Packaging Solutions, which manufactures rigid plastic products for the healthcare industry.
In March 2025, the company announced that it had acquired Massachusetts-based Meredith-Springfield Associates, which specializes in the design and blow-molding of recyclable rigid plastic containers used for everything from food storage to prescription drug bottles.
Those acquisitions appear to be part of an expansion focused on lightweight recyclable packaging that Precision Concepts International had announced several years ago to expand its reach in the personal care, food and beverage, and healthcare markets, according to an earlier news release from the company.
Meanwhile, in July of this year, Precision Concepts International announced that a private equity firm in Houston, The Sterling Group, had entered into an agreement to take a majority ownership stake in Precision.
In May 2023, Biomerics, a medical device contract manufacturer based in Salt Lake City, Utah, announced its plans to buy the medical manufacturing component and assets of Precision Concepts International, as well as those owned by Precision Concepts Group.
Precision Concepts International has approximately 1,200 employees at several other manufacturing facilities in the U.S. and Canada, according to its website.
