Quaker Creek Golf Course will be closed for about three months beginning next week for a greens renovation project.
The overhaul will include adding Bermuda grass for the greens, which will be enlarged and flattened, course owner Richie Belton said.
The last day of play will be Monday, so there won’t be play on the course beginning June 2 and perhaps all the way through August. The goal is to be reopened by September, Belton said.
The course, located north of Mebane, opened for full play in October 2001. The course has bentgrass greens.
“Bermuda thrives better in the summer,” Belton said. “It’s just time as far as our greens are concerned. A lot of courses don’t go that long without doing it.”
Belton said it’s similar to a greens project at Graham’s The Challenge Golf Club, which he owned for about a decade before selling in 2024.
For Quaker Creek, the hybrid grass strand known as Tifgreen Bermuda will be used for the greens.
Belton said this is the course’s first shutdown. Knowing the facility would close for a few months, the course didn’t offer regular memberships for 2026.
Ideally, Belton said the course will be ready by Labor Day.
“It’s going to play totally different,” he said.
