The football season ended for a pair of Alamance County teams in the Class 6-A state playoffs Friday night in the East Region.
Sixth-seeded Southern Alamance fell 31-30 at third-seeded Middle Creek, while fifth-seeded Williams tumbled 17-7 at fourth-seeded Union Pines.
- At Apex, Middle Creek scored a touchdown and converted on a two-point conversion run in the final minute to overcome Southern.
The Patriots (8-4) surrendered 22 fourth-quarter points to Middle Creek (9-2), which earlier went ahead 9-0.
Southern, in its first season under coach Jonathan Hester, led 22-9 through three quarters.
Middle Creek will visit second-seeded Northern Nash in the fourth round.
- At Cameron, Williams failed to score until the fourth quarter in the season-ending outcome.
Williams (10-2) trailed 6-0 at halftime and later 17-0 after a Vikings field goal early in the fourth quarter.
Union Pines (11-1) goes to top-seeded Jacksonville for a fourth-round game.
Class 3-A
At Ramseur, Eastern Randolph defeated visiting Walkertown 30-14 in a third-round game in the West Region. The Wildcats are coached by Graham resident Burton Cates.
James Combs and Kobe Walker both scored two touchdowns for the third-seeded Wildcats (10-2), who’ll be home again in the fourth round against 10th-seeded Shelby. Shelby knocked off second-seeded Mount Airy 41-21.
