Sheriff IDs woman found dead in burning vehicle

The office of Alamance County’s sheriff is seeking information about a deceased woman whose remains were found inside of a burning vehicle on Monday morning.

According to the sheriff’s office, deputies discovered the woman’s body in the back seat of its fiery catafalque after they spotted the vehicle along Harmony Church Road in the northeastern part of the county at about 3:00 a.m. The deputies were soon joined at the scene by investigators from other agencies, including the local fire marshal’s office, the N.C. State Bureau of Investigations, and the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.

The sheriff’s office has since identified the deceased woman as 66-year-old Alamance County resident Cathie Jo Latham.  Local public records indicate that the white woman lived at 5511 Snow Camp Road, Graham.

The sheriff’s office urges anyone with pertinent information about this case to call 336-570-3600 to speak with one of the sheriff’s investigators or contact Crime Stoppers at 336-229-7100 to leave an anonymous tip.
