Softball players part of silver medal in State Games; baseball team gets bronze

Area softball players and coaches were part of the team that claimed the silver medal in the high school division in last month’s State Games of North Carolina in the Charlotte area.

They were representing Region 5, which consisted of players from a six-county area.

The Region 5 softball team members included McKenzie Blevins, Kinley Henderson ,and Kayden Manning of Eastern Alamance; Tatum Shelton and Ava Wheeley of Southeast Alamance; Maycee Tickle and Abigail Holt of Southern Alamance; as well as Bayleigh Burris and Addison Beal of Western Alamance.

The head coach was Danny Way of Eastern Alamance with assistant coaches Mike Williams of Graham, Tina Way of Eastern Alamance, Scott Bell of Western Alamance, and Dwayne Turner of Greensboro Grimsley.

 

High School baseball division

  • In the high school baseball division, the Region 5 team won the bronze medal.

That team included players Jerry Sims of Southeast Alamance, Mark King of Southern Alamance, J.D. Mace of Burlington Christian Academy and Gib Wirt of The Burlington School along with head coach Jason Smith of Southern Alamance and assistant coach Brent Haynes of Williams.
