Southeast Alamance had a strong finishing touch to top host Western Alamance 74-49 in Saturday’s non-conference showdown in girls’ basketball.
The Stallions outscored Western 23-6 in the fourth quarter.
Shaniya Paylor racked up 23 points, Clara LaChapelle had 16 points and 16 rebounds, Ciara Payton provided 12 points, and Rreanna Johnson added 11 points for the Stallions, who had a 33-30 halftime lead.
Allie Sykes led Western with 23 points and Tina Bowers had 18 points.
That came a day after Southeast’s 79-0 blanking of host Jordan-Matthews in a Mid-Carolina Conference game, with Paylor scoring 17 points.
Southeast trails Seaforth by one game in the league standings. The Stallions visit Seaforth on Friday night.
- Western got back on track with Tuesday night’s 83-24 Central 3-A Conference victory against visiting Williams, with Sykes draining a program-record 10 shots from 3-point range.
Sykes, who finished with 32 points, hit the last of her shots with 6:10 remaining to boost the Warriors to a 74-21 lead. Western made 14 total 3s. Skyes’ 3-point total was one more than she had during a game last month at Roxboro Person.
Western, which scored 19 straight points late in the third quarter, received 13 points from Emma Johnson. Jordyn Taylor’s eight points were tops for Williams.
Western was a 73-5 winner against visiting Southern Alamance a week ago Wednesday.
- Southern fell 31-15 to visiting Roxboro Person on Friday.
- Eastern Alamance defeated visiting Williams 66-50 on Friday night, with Aliya Trollinger scoring 33 points and grabbing 15 rebounds and Makayla Scott with 19 points. Taylor had 16 points for the Bulldogs.
- Graham won for the first time in almost two months with a 48-40 Mid-Carolina Conference victory at Jordan-Matthews on Monday night before falling 53-29 to visiting Northwood on Tuesday.
- Cummings lost by 50-21 to visiting Chatham Central in Tuesday’s Mid-Carolina Conference game.
