Two key members of Southeast Alamance’s Mid-Carolina Conference championship boys’ basketball team from a season ago have transferred.
Donnie Fairley and James Kenan are enrolled at The Burlington School.
The Stallions had a 25-5 record last season and reached the Class 5-A East Region final. They won the conference regular-season and tournament titles.
The three top scorers from that Southeast team are no longer with the Stallions.
“Tough summer for us,” Southeast coach Bo Williamson said, noting challenges of competing with private schools for players. “Nothing more than that.”
Davian Edwards was a senior guard last season, averaging 23.3 points per game. Kenan (12.6 ppg. and 4.2 assists per game) was a junior and Fairley (16.1 ppg and 10.5 rebounds per game) was a sophomore.
Fairley, who has been one of the area’s most dominant post players with Southeast, has received considerable recruiting attention. He also has reclassified to the Class of 2029.
The newcomers are bound to make contributions to TBS, which plays in the North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association.
“Donnie will start and I think James will have a significant role,” said TBS coach George Marshall, whose team’s schedule begins Nov. 10 at High Point Christian.
Southeast also had a departure from its coaching staff. Assistant coach Lavar Marsh has joined the staff at Burlington Christian Academy.
Meanwhile, Marshall said that guard Karon Watlington, who played for BCA before switching last season to TBS, has gone to Hargrave Military Academy in Chatham, Virginia.
