New Southern Alamance boys’ soccer coach Gjergji Ngjala is involved in his first venture in the sport in North Carolina.
Ngjala said the team matches many of his traits.
“Hungry to compete,” he said. “They’re willing to learn.”
Ngjala, 28, has been involved in several levels of soccer instruction in Virginia since graduating from Blacksburg High School.
He attended Radford and James Madison, while also becoming involved in three different organizations of travel soccer in Virginia.
“It’s an opportunity to work with youth,” he said.
The Patriots were originally scheduled to begin their season Monday night at Cummings but that was rescheduled.
Ngjala, whose first name is pronounced “George,” moved to the United States from Albania at age 12. He’ll be an eighth-grade math teacher at Southern Alamance Middle School.
Will have to wait
Tuesday night’s scheduled non-conference boys’ soccer game sending Southeast Alamance to Western Alamance was postponed until August. 21.
That matchup involves brothers coaching against each other with Camden Brooks at Western Alamance and Jackson Brooks at Southeast.
