The Patriots were entered as a team as well, placing 10th.

Southern was in sixth place through Monday’s first round at 309 before shooting 333 in Tuesday’s rain and dropping. The Patriots finished at 642 in the 12-team field. Fayetteville Sanford posted 567 to repeat as the Class 3-A state champion.

Other results for Southern were Kaden Long (74-84—158) in a tie for 44th; Lacy Carroll (79-84—163) to tie for 64th; Landon Linch (81-84—165) to tie for 70th; and Brody Aydt (89-89—178) for the 86th spot.

Here’s the Southern Alamance golf team after clinching the county championship earlier this year. They are, left to right, Lacy Carroll, Brody Aydt, Kaden Long, Jvan Hamby, and Landon Linch. Missing is Jo Jo Gilbert.

Several golfers from Alamance County schools qualified as individuals, without much better fortune.

Christos Katsoudas (78-82—160) of Williams and Joey Peterson (77-83—160) of Western Alamance tied for 53rd; Gryffin Brehler (81-81—162) of Eastern Alamance tied for 62nd; and Tim Klein (88-86—174) of Williams was 81st.

  • In Class 2-A at Stonebridge Golf Club in Monroe, Mid-Carolina Conference member Seaforth won the title in a playoff with Pine Lake Prep.

Boys’ tennis

Western Alamance’s bid for an undefeated season in dual team competition ended with this week’s loss to eighth-seeded Carrboro in the Class 3-A East Region semifinals.

Carrboro won 7-2 to advance to a regional final against Wilson Fike.

Fourth-seeded Western’s season ended with a 17-1 record. The Warriors had topped fifth-seeded South Central 5-1 in last week’s third round.

Regional finals were scheduled for Wednesday, though some might have been pushed back because of postponements earlier this week.

Championship matches in all four classifications will be held Saturday at Burlington Tennis Center. Class 1-A and Class 3-A are slated for 9:00 a.m., with Class 2-A and Class 4-A at 12:30 p.m.

In last week’s individual state tournament, two Western players reached the second round in Class 3-A singles at Burlington Tennis Center.

Luke Dunham defeated Piedmont’s William Herman 6-1, 6-1 before falling to South Point’s Shiv Patel 7-6 (6), 2-6, 6-4.

Adam Boylston topped Ledford’s Logan Thoma 6-1, 6-1 before falling to Smoky Mountain’s Derek Hinkle by 6-4, 7-5.

In doubles, the Williams tandem of Alex Brown and Michael Zang absorbed a 6-1, 6-0 loss to Lake Norman Charter’s Charlie Schild and Tejas Sridhar.
