Spring book sale underway at May Memorial Library

Volunteers Debbie Gunyan and Pat Shoffner rush to make final preparations before Friday’s kickoff to the upcoming spring book sale at Burlington’s May Memorial Library.

Sponsored by the Friends of the Alamance County Public Libraries, this seasonal bazaar can, indeed, get “mad as a March hare” as book lovers and bargain hunters clamor for deals within the basement of the library system’s flagship branch at 342 South Spring Street.

The pickings at this spring’s sale promise to be particularly enticing with loads of new releases, provocative non-fiction titles, literary classics, and page-turning fiction in categories ranging from sci-fi to Amish and Christian romance. Also on offer are puzzles, children’s books, and multimedia materials such as CDs, DVDS, and vinyl records.

Scheduled to run from March 8 to 17, the sale will open, as per usual, with a special “member’s only” event that begins Friday at 12:00 noon. Memberships will be available at the door for $10 per household, and shoppers with scanners will be assessed an additional $10 fee, good for the duration of the sale.

Books purchased during the sale will cost $3 for hardcovers, $2 for paperbacks, and $1 for children’s books. Shoppers will need to bring cash or their checkbooks to the sale as the Friends don’t accept either credit or debit cards.
