Teenager faces manslaughter charge after 19-year-old’s accidental shooting

A 15-year-old faces prosecution for involuntary manslaughter after the apparently unintentional shooting of an older teenager in the northern part of the county.

This fatal accident occurred on Saturday evening along Altamahaw Church Street in the unincorporated community of Altamahaw north of Elon.

According to the office of Alamance County’s sheriff, the shooting occurred while defendant was examining a vintage, Russian-made rifle that belonged to 19-year-old Colby Dillon Bradley. The 15-year-old, whose name has been withheld because of his age, apparently thought that the Mosin-Nagant bolt-action rifle was unloaded. His assumption was nevertheless checked when Bradley reentered the room and grabbed hold of his rifle, which reportedly went off in the ensuing struggle.

Bradley had succumbed to his wounds by the time deputies arrived on the scene at about 7:30 p.m. According to the sheriff’s office, the district attorney intends to prosecute the juvenile defendant on a charge of involuntary manslaughter.
