The Burlington School (TBS) has been named to the 2024 Advanced Placement® Program (AP®) School Honor Roll, earning Silver distinction as well as the AP Access Award by the College Board.
The AP School Honor Roll recognizes schools whose AP programs are delivering results for students while broadening access. Schools can earn this recognition annually based on criteria that reflect a commitment to increasing college-going culture, providing opportunities for students to earn college credit, and maximizing college readiness.
TBS is being further recognized with the AP Access Award, which honors schools that encourage more low-income and underrepresented minority students to take AP courses. The percentage of students in at least one of these categories who took at least one AP Exam before graduation is proportional to or above your school’s student population, demonstrating a clear and effective commitment to equitable access to advanced coursework. Research shows students who take AP courses and exams are more likely to attend college and graduate on time. And even for those who don’t earn college credit, advanced coursework provides early exposure to college-level work and contributes to a college- going school culture.
The Burlington School had 71% of seniors who took at least one AP Exam during high school and 47%of seniors scoring a 3 or higher on at least one AP Exam. The School offers 12 different AP classes. Each class has an AP trained teacher. In addition, we offer the AP Capstone program. AP Capstone™ is a diploma program based on two AP courses: AP Seminar and AP Research. These year-long courses focus on developing the critical thinking, research, collaboration, time management, and presentation skills you need for college-level work.
College Board’s Advanced Placement® Program (AP®) enables students to pursue college-level studies – with the opportunity to earn college credit, advanced placement, or both – while still in high school. Taking AP courses demonstrates to college admissions officers that students have sought the most challenging curriculum available to them, and research indicates that students who score a 3 or higher on an AP Exam typically experience greater academic success in college and are more likely to earn a college degree than non-AP students.
