QUESTION: Did an inmate in Alamance County’s jail pass away earlier this month?
ANSWER: According to Byron Tucker, a spokesman for Alamance County’s sheriff, confirmed that inmate, indeed, died in the county’s detention center on February 8.
Tucker added that, as a matter of protocol, the N.C. State Bureau of Investigation conducts an inquiry into any death that occurs at a state or local detention facility. He added that until the bureau wraps up its probe, he can release neither the name of the deceased inmate nor the cause of his or her death.
“We’ve already turned it over to the SBI,” he went on to emphasize, ‘and I see nothing that says they’ve finished their investigation.”
