Three people were killed in a Wednesday night car wreck on Moore Street in Graham.
Police, fire, EMS, and rescue were called to the accident site in the 400 block of West Moore Street around 9:13 p.m. where one of the vehicles caught fire.
The accident involved a 2017 Ford F-150 and a 2011 Chevrolet HHR sport utility vehicle.
According to police, “it is apparent that one of the vehicles crossed left of center into the path of the other.” The Chevrolet caught fire after the collision, according to the preliminary investigation.
A 23-year-old woman and her 7-week-old infant died at the scene.
A 43-year-old man in the other vehicle was initially taken by EMS to Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro where he died as a result of his injuries.
There were no other occupants in either vehicle.
The crash is still under investigation.
FRIDAY UPDATE:
The drivers were identified, according to a subsequent release from the Graham Police Department. The driver of the Ford F-150 was 43-year-old Travis Johnson of Elon. The driver of the Chevrolet HHR was 23-year-old Rikeah Johnson of Graham; the infant in her vehicle was her son, Yannis.
According to Graham police, the investigation has determined that the HHR lost control and crossed left of center into the path of the F-150. Investigators are still working to determine the circumstances that led to the loss of control.
