New quarterbacks were under center at three high schools during their first games of the 2023 season Friday night – Dan Mahan at Williams, Devin Witherspoon at Cummings, and Ryan Dodson at Southeast Alamance.

All three quarterbacks were veteran players on their teams but novices in the quarterback role – except for Dodson, who while a veteran player at Southern Alamance is in both a new role and at a new school.
