Two Burlington residents face a raft of criminal charges after they allegedly rounded up a posse of armed teenagers to take part in a dustup at an area apartment complex.
This violent confrontation broke out last Wednesday evening after Yanessa Quanec Dudley allegedly ferried her own child and two other teenagers to confront adversaries at the Pointe Apartments at 2008 South Mebane Street.
According to various court records, the 36-year-old black female, who hails from 1306 North Beaumont Court, packed her kid into a vehicle with two 16-year-olds and some “unsecured weapons” in order “to go fight other people.”
Her accomplice in dragooning these underage toughs was allegedly Damari Lashaun Crump, an 18-year-old black male of 828 Cornwallis Drive. Court records indicate that both Dudley and Crump also took part in the subsequent donnybrook, in which at least one female victim was apparently injured.
According to the city’s police department, the instigators of last Wednesday’s disturbance had fled the Pointe Apartments by the time that officers arrived on the scene at 9:13 p.m. The officers nevertheless caught up with the suspects along Beaumont Court, where a subsequent search of Dudley’s vehicle yielded several firearms as well as 41 grams of what appeared to be fentanyl. The officers went on to arrest Dudley and Crump along with an unidentified juvenile who had remained in their company.
For her alleged role in last Wednesday’s upheaval, Dudley has been charged with multiple misdemeanors that include two counts of simple assault, three counts of assault by pointing a gun, and one count of assault with a deadly weapon leading to serious injury. She also faces one count of misdemeanor child abuse, one count of carrying an illegally concealed weapon, three counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor – as well as felony charges for trafficking in opium and maintaining a vehicle for the sale or distribution of a control substance.
Crump, for his part, is accused of simple assault and carrying an illegally concealed weapon, along with three counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
According to the city’s police department, Dudley was initially placed under a $100,000 bond, although court records indicate that this amount has since been reduced to $25,000, secured. Crump, meanwhile, has received a secured bond of $1,500.
