Southern Alamance softball player Greta Hessenthaler has signed to play in college for Elon.
Hessenthaler is Southern’s shortstop with a career batting average of .570. She missed most of the 2022 season with a broken finger.
“We’re looking forward to having her back on the field for her senior campaign,” coach Jon Russell said.

Hessenthaler, who was a member of the 2021 Class 3-A state championship team as a sophomore, also has been a volleyball standout for the Patriots. Her father, Fritz Hessenthaler, is Southern’s football coach.

In addition, Ella Knight of Burlington Christian Academy is heading to Emory & Henry for track and field. BCA held a signing ceremony for her Tuesday.
Knight specializes in sprints and jumps.
Emory & Henry is in its first school year as an NCAA Division II member, moving up from Division III. The Wasps are in the South Atlantic Conference.
