Janiyah Quidachay found satisfaction on multiple levels in the Stallion Stampede wrestling tournament.
The Southeast Alamance junior won a tournament for the first time Saturday.
“I got it. I’m really proud,” Quidachay said. “Now being able to actually do it.”
Quidachay (165 pounds) and Katie Lloyd (132) were host Southeast’s individual champions.
“(It’s important) being a home tournament representing Southeast,” Lloyd said.
Quidachay notched pins in 15 and 20 seconds to reach the final, where it took her two minutes to dispose of West Davidson’s Ka cee Elliott. Quidachay used a throw that culminated in a pin at the end of first period.
“Being over one of my mental blocks. . . I’m having to tell myself I can do it.”
Lloyd had a first-round pin before handling Jordan-Matthews’ Johanna Carter with a technical fall in 4:34 in the title bout.
“I wrestle her about every tournament,” said Lloyd, who shortly after departed to head to the University of Kentucky where she was attending a softball camp Sunday.
Southeast’s Samari Acevedo (145) was the runner-up, falling behind Anson County’s Macayla Mason by 7-0 and then absorbing a pin in 5:26. Kaleigh Poteat of Southeast was fourth with a 2-2 mark at 100.
Laura Blanchard of Williams was third at 126.
Raleigh Millbrook was the girls’ team champion with 118½ points, followed by West Davidson with 97 and Southeast with 82½ among 17 scoring teams. Garner’s Addison Gore (120), a 2025 state champion, was voted the meet’s Most Outstanding Wrestler.
On the boys’ side. . .
Angler Laxson of Williams captured the 175 division in the Stallion Stampede, winning by a pin and two decisions. He beat Garner’s Justin Cardona 8-5 in the final.
Southeast had Ajani Mungroo (126) as a runner-up, Troy Cain (150) in third, Judah Robinson (113) in fourth. Carson Giannotti (132) went 3-2 and didn’t place.
Mungroo won twice before falling by 11-5 to Matthew Fleming of Athens Drive. Cain’s 4-1 record came with four pins.
Cummings had Justin Corbett (150) and Zyyihr Wiley (215) with fourth-place finishes. The lone The Burlington School entrant, Aiden Goodwin (150), went 1-2.
Southeast was fifth with 107 points among 20 teams. Athens Drive was first with 214, followed by Raleigh Millbrook at 138.
Southeast was trying to build off a 65-12 victory against host Graham from earlier in the week in a dual meet.
Other results
Southern Alamance topped host Roxboro Person 40-38 in last week’s dual meet on heavyweight Luke White’s pin with four seconds remaining in the second period.
- Western Alamance didn’t have a place finisher in the Sarah Wilkes Invitational on Saturday at Eden Morehead. Rutherfordton-Spindale Central won by a half-point on Northwest Guilford in the 19-team field.
