Smith, who’s entering the Charleston Southern program, began this week ranked second in the CPL in batting with a .407 batting average across 24 games. He had three home runs and nine doubles.

Smith is a 20-year-old first baseman. He began his collegiate career with UNC Asheboro in 2022 before an interruption. He transferred to Wake Tech for the 2024 season.

He earned first-team National Junior College Athletic Association All-Region 10 honors this year. He shared Wake Tech’s team lead with 13 home runs and became just the third player in program history to drive in 50 runs in a season.

Recently, Smith was picked for the CPL select team, which played an exhibition last weekend against USA Baseball’s collegiate touring team. The CPL team lost 5-2 in that matchup at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary.

CPL All-Star activities will take place in Forest City. A Home Run Derby and other contests are slated for Sunday with the All-Star Game on Monday.
