Western Alamance has reached the 10-win mark in volleyball by defeating visiting Southern Alamance on Tuesday night.
The Warriors won 19-25, 25-19, 25-13, 25-20 in the Central 3-A Conference encounter.
Western (10-3 overall, 4-2 Central 3-A Conference) has gone 4-0 against teams from Alamance County.
- Southeast Alamance has been on a recent upswing, securing its third consecutive victory by winning Tuesday night at Northwood in the Mid-Carolina Conference. That 25-22, 25-19, 12-25, 22-25, 15-10 result marked just the second five-set success in the 2-year-old program’s history.
A night earlier, the Stallions won in four sets in a non-conference match at Southern Alamance.
Boys’ soccer
Some teams had schedule adjustments early this week because of weather and field conditions, but Western Alamance just keep plugging along.
The Warriors rolled past visiting Eastern Alamance 9-0 in a Central 3-A Conference game Monday night for their eighth consecutive victory. Konner Johnson provided two goals.
The Warriors (9-1), who have a non-conference game scheduled for Thursday night at Graham, will carry a 2-0 league record into Monday night’s encounter with visiting Williams.
- Williams fell by 3-2 to visiting Orange on Monday night despite goals from Lucas Stroud and Aurelio Figueroa.
- Southeast Alamance won its first two Mid-Carolina Conference outings with shutouts of Northwood and North Moore earlier this month.
Zwe Maung had three goals in the 6-0 victory at Northwood, while Bailey Frye and Edgar Carbajal each scored twice in the 9-0 romp past visiting North Moore.
- Graham put together a seven-game unbeaten stretch since falling to Western Alamance in its first game of the season.
The Red Devils improved to 5-1-2 with Monday’s 5-1 non-league victory at Roxboro Community.
Last week, Graham blanked host Southern Alamance 5-0 in non-conference competition before defeating visiting Cummings 2-0 in Mid-Carolina Conference play.
Girls’ golf
Gabbie Moorehead of Williams shot 36 for the top score in the first Central 3-A Conference match of the season last week at Occoneechee Golf Club in Hillsborough.
Southern Alamance teammates Madison Kingery (37) and Riley Bush (39) were next followed by Western Alamance’s Ashtyn Whitfield (40).
Southern was the team winner by 17 strokes on runner-up Williams.
