Tyler Clayton of Western Alamance was the top area finisher in the Class 3-A golf state tournament Monday and Tuesday at Gates Four Golf & Country Club in Fayetteville.
Clayton shot rounds of 75 and 72 for a 3-over-par 147 total, placing him tied for 18th among 96 golfers.
Tim Klein of Williams shared 21st place at 149 after rounds of 76 and 73. Western’s Hamilton Plunkett was tied for 31st at 152 (79, 73).
Southern Alamance, which was the Mideast Regional team runner-up, ended in ninth place among 12 teams.
Southern’s top finisher was Jojo Gilbert at 155 (84, 71) for 44th-place tie. Other Patriots were Lacy Carroll with 160 (83, 77 – tied for 55th), Jvan Hamby with 161 (84, 77 – tied for 59th), Kaden Long with 164 (81, 83 – tied for 68th) and Landon Linch with 169 (85, 84 – 79th).
The team champion was Cramer, which topped two-time defending champion Fayetteville Sanford in a playoff.
- In Class 2-A at Pinehurst No. 6, Salisbury won its seventh team championship, edging Pine Lake Prep by one stroke.
Individually, Southeast Alamance’s Trevor Fowler tied for 24th place at 19-over 161 (80, 81) among 97 golfers. Teammate Joey Pritchard shared 50th place at 169 (85, 84).
